Why Medical Massage?
Come in for a natural solution to decrease pain and increase your range of motion.
The goal of the Medical Massage Therapist is to intelligently work with the patient to reduce pain and suffering, and to avoid any therapy that might cause harm. The patient is treated for their presenting problem and according to the patient evaluation and findings.
Your therapist will work with you to determine a treatment plan, which includes consideration of intensity, frequency and duration of the treatment program. In most cases, the Medical Massage Therapist can reduce symptoms of the soft tissue dysfunction and pain by treating the secondary factors, even if they cannot "cure" the primary cause of the condition.
Many modern jobs require long hours of tedious postural positions.
These positions can cause muscle fatigue that can turn into spasm and pain. Spasm and pain tend to recreate themselves leading to chronic conditions and muscular skeletal imbalances.
All Massage Therapists at Body Works are National Board Certified Medical Massage Therapists and graduates of the Blue Heron Academy
The Importance of Exercise and Stretching
You spend many hours a day with your muscles cramped into
uncomfortable positions. You sleep in positions that are detrimental to
your muscles. At work you’re bending over the telephone, paper work, or
even a computer. You sit behind the steering wheel, on your way home and
then sit in front of the TV when you get home. All of these activities and
numerous other activities of an active modern life lead to tight muscles.
Think about all the thousands of hours contracting and tightening your
muscles. When do you relax and stretch them? When do your muscles
get a break?
Chronic muscle contraction causes slow progressive muscle injury. The
muscle tissue and adjacent joints will degenerate into conditions such as
arthritis and fibromyalgia. Localized areas of soreness and pain will
develop into trigger points, points that trigger pain and muscle
contraction.
PAIN IS USUALLY YOUR FIRST SIGNAL THAT SOMETHING IS
WRONG AND SHOULD BE A MOTIVATOR TO SEEK PROFESSIONAL
HELP.
We all know someone, perhaps grandparents, parents, or even yourself,
who have chronic joint pain and limited movement in the neck, shoulders,
or other areas. Now how do you suppose they got that way? They ignored
the signs of chronic muscle contraction and only treated the
symptoms/pain, with aspirin, Advil, or Motrin rather than treating the
cause; muscle contraction and soft tissue injury.
